Building Science and Structure

This session will help you to use ALL your senses when inspecting a home including your sight, hearing, taste, touch, smell, and a little nonsense.  The course will include a little physiology and a lot of shared insights on how to discover defects using ALL your senses. Learn to suspect defects before you see them and to assemble disparate findings into a recommendation for major deficiencies.  Photos, videos, and samples will accompany this interactive presentation.

Howard Maxfield, ACI is a licensed Mechanical Engineer, Washington State Home Inspector, and Structural Pest Inspector and has spent 27 years in Industry and 16 years in Home Inspection discovering and troubleshooting defects.  Additionally, he has served as President of the American Society of Home Inspectors of Western Washington, is currently Chapter secretary, served as Plant Engineer for the Weyerhaeuser Corporation and selected to be on a national committee for the Weyerhaeuser Corporation on Maintenance Effectiveness, Managed a Steel Foundry, Operated a sawmill, and has served in many volunteer groups.
