Inaugural PAC Reception a Success

Thanks to all who attended!

The warm Fort Lauderdale breezes helped to create a beautiful setting for the first-ever InspectPAC fundraising reception held during InspectionWorld 2006 on January 12th.

In all, nearly $10,000 was raised from the event allowing us to set aside over $6,000 to support the election of congressional candidates who believe in home inspection and share the views of ASHI members on home inspection issues.  While a portion of the ticket income was used to host the event, the majority of the expenses were covered by ASHI to allow for more income to go directly to the InspectPAC funds. The reception was the first public event held by InspectPAC in an effort to raise much needed funds to support Members of Congress who deserve ASHI support.

ASHI's InspectPAC is a federal Political Action Committee established to allow the ASHI Membership the ability to exercise their constitutional right and need to participate in the political process, but in a way that is controlled and allows for full disclosure and openness in the campaign finance process. InspectPAC represents the interests of the home inspection professional. When ASHI members contribute to InspectPAC, they focus and coordinate their efforts to generate important political support for Members of Congress who share ASHI's views on positive home inspection messages from HUD...increased homeownership...consumer protection...protection for small businesses...continuing the prohibition on banks in realty...RESPA reform...and more.

In addition to the great food, drink and company, the 2006 InspectPAC Reception featured an incredible prize give away for one lucky ticket holder.  The big winner for the evening was ASHI Member Jim Fahs of Young Home Inspections in Dunedin, FL, who walked away with the "Family Vacation/Continuing Education Package for InspectionWorld 2007". Jim's prize consists of the following:

  • Round Trip coach airfare for four to Orange County, California for travel to and from InspectionWorld 2007.
  • Round Trip ground transportation: Orange County Airport to Disneyland Hotel
  • Six (6) nights deluxe accommodations at the Disneyland Hotel
  • Family four pack  5-Day Park Hopper Bonus
  • $250 in Disney Dollars to be used anytime/anywhere in the parks
  • One Full Conference Inspector Registration for InspectionWorld 2007
  • One Full Conference Spouse Registration
  • Two Additional Guest Passes for Conference Social Events (All Show Brunch and President's Gala)
  • One Character Dining Experience for Four at Goofy's Kitchen
  • Disney Memorabilia Family Four Pack

Each $150 ticket purchased for the event included one entry into the Prize Drawing. Jim's name was drawn during the event by InspectPAC Treasurer Rob Paterkiewicz, and ASHI's Lobbyist, Randall Pence of Capitol Hill Advocates in Washington, D.C. When asked why he supported ASHI's InspectPAC, Jim responded: "With so many forces out there attempting to diminish requirements to serve as a Home Inspector, now is the time, like no other, to support professionalism in the field of Home Inspections.  Having a brief involvement in the Florida state political process, I can report that people out there really don't have an understanding about what it will take to accomplish viable consumer protection for homebuyers.

ASHI has been the flagship for this over its 30-year history and now this PAC is pushing forward the same high standards.  Our Lobbyist, Randall Pence, is doing a superb job on behalf of professional home inspectors throughout North America."

Rob Paterkiewicz, Treasurer of InspectPAC and ASHI Executive Director stated, "We are very pleased at the results of our first fundraising reception.  We set a goal to sell 100 tickets and we sold 78.  I can safely say that those who came to the event enjoyed the incredible food, open bar and opportunity to interact and network with inspectors from all over.  I'm confident we'll offer this event again next January during InspectionWorld 2007 in Anaheim, CA., and I would expect we'll see a lot more in attendance!"
